These carbide cup wheels work great for fast removal of tire material to get ready for a patch. Be careful to go slow with grinding so the tire does not get hot and "smear" at the surface. Once initial material is removed it is a good idea to use a slow speed tire buffer to roughen up the surface before applying the vulcanizing patch.

2004625&ensp·&enspTire grinding is legal as long as you can't see the cuts in the tire. That being said, most of the guys around here are using a 16 grit grinding disk which does leave marks, but I have yet to hear of anyone getting in trouble for it. Since I don't have a grinder I use a belt sander with 50 grit paper.

Used rubber tires can be recycled by grinding them into crumb rubber and mixing the recycled matter with asphalt for use on state highways. 201435&ensp·&enspI use an 8 blade siper and uniformly sipe the tire so the sipes are 1/8th apart. Ask 10 people and you will get 10 answers on siping, but I look at it like this. I sipe to get heat into the tire, the small close sipes get the blocks moving around and generate heat quicker.
Use the disc to relieve the top of the lug, the cup to sharpen the front of the lug (on Carlisle or Firestones), and the Angled Cup (for chevron lug tires) to hook the front of the lug forward for a more aggressive bite. Grit rating is similar to sandpaper ratings. Tire Grinding
